Patty
has RID CI and CT certification and works in the community as a
freelance interpreter. She first learned to sign from a deaf woman at
church many years ago and still loves to worship in ASL while
interpreting every Sunday at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Johnson City.
Patty continues to learn and deepen her use of ASL with the help of
deaf friends and other terps. She enjoys signing on stage with
Jonesborough Repertory Theatre's Stage Hands as a way to present the
deaf and signing communities with the fun and beauty of drama. In her
spare time, she tends her husband, children, and gardens, and tries to
play tennis year-round.

Jessica
is the program coordinator for the Communication Center for the Deaf
and Hard of Hearing in Johnson City. She became interested in
sign language as a toddler when her father worked at the newspaper and
had several deaf friends. She learned printer’s slang signs
long
before ASL, but now she is currently awaiting the results of her NIC
Interview & Performance exam. Jessica works in a
variety of
settings as a community interpreter. Interpreting is her
passion,
and she feels blessed to be able to serve the deaf community in that
capacity. |
Janette
took ASL in a Florida college 15 years ago. Since that time,
she
has remained active in the Deaf community and continued her education
in the language and Deaf culture. Janette’s experience
includes
educational and freelance interpreting as well as sign language
instruction. After discovering her love for live theatre 5
years
ago, Janette formed a theatrical troupe at the Jonesborough Repertory
Theatre called Stage Hands, which introduces hearing children to the
beauty of ASL and Deaf culture. The parent of HOH daughters,
Janette has also been an active advocate for Deaf/HOH. |
